Alloy steel and other grade steels

SA515 Gr55, SA515 Gr60, SA515 Gr65, SA515 Gr70

are hot rolled normalized boiler quality medium carbon steel plate for intermediate temperatures with high tensile strength and very good weldability, thickness range from 6 mm to 100 mm is available at all open markets grades 60 and 70 are easily available at all time whereas grade 55 and 65 require pre-ordering. The general thinning allowance considered for these plate materials is 0.0 mm. If we use plates above 16 mm thickness either for rolling or dishing, normalizing is to be done at local available furnaces. This is a must when you proceed for further welding of these plates either with a simple arc welding or a sophisticated submerged arc welding. Pre heating of welding is a must if you go for an arc welding, Er 7018 some other Grades are

SA516 Gr55, SA516 Gr60, SA516 Gr65 & SA516 Gr70

These are some less tensile and quite little brittle compared to Sa 515 Grades

SA 537 Gr 60 CL1, SA 537 Gr 60 CL2

With minimum yield strength of 50,000 to 60,000 with carbon, manganese and silicon is a medium quality hot rolled boiler quality plate, heat treated are hot rolled low and intermediate hot rolled carbon steel plates which are especially used in the construction of storage tanks to store oils and fluids / pressure vessel constructions. It is a chromium molybdenum alloyed steel plate mainly used for elevated temperature applications.

SA 203 Gr A, SA 203 Gr B, SA 203 Gr C, SA 203 Gr D, SA 203 Gr E and SA 203 Gr F

Nickel based alloy steel plates especially used for low temperature applications below - 150 deg F. Mainly used in cryogenic construction of space ships

SA 204 Gr A,SA 204 Gr B and  SA 204 Gr C

Medium to semi high temperature applications, main alloying element being Molybdenum

SA 302 Gr B, SA 302 Gr C and SA 302 Gr D

Manganese, Nickel and Molybdenum alloyed steel plate with tensile strength as high as 80,000 mim'm is heat treated and used for storage tank construction and pressure vessels.

In the manufacturing of process heating equipment’s like boiler/ ducts / hot rollers / containers, if the temperature exceeds 450 Degree Centigrade and within 550 Degree Centigrade, then boiler quality alloy steel plate can be efficiently used to fabricate Steam Drums, Mud Drums, Dished ends etc. ASME specifies a set of Alloy Steel Plate specifications Which can be rolled, forged, welded, bended and fabricated etc . Here root weld is done on inner side, chipped on outer sides and welded. Thickness range from 6 mm to 100 mm Electrode - E.8018 is used. Negative Tolerance i.e variation in thickness is to be checked from ASME SEC viii DIV-1
